Catch Snappers with Earthworms at the introductory pier
To catch Snappers in the DREADMOOR demo, equip the simple rod, choose Earthworms and cast into the splashing fish below the introductory pier. Tire each hooked fish by pulling opposite its movement, then reel it in when its stamina is depleted. The documented demo quest asks for five fish.
This route follows the demo-labelled Mr. Feudal and FazyGaming recordings as player experience. The official DREADMOOR demo page describes the settlement and surrounding-island fishing progression.
You reach this lesson after meeting the merchants, staying in the bunkhouse and collecting the fishing rod. Follow the instruction to meet them on the platform behind the dry dock rather than sailing away to search for a different species.
Cast, hook and tire the fish
The introductory dialogue identifies Snappers splashing beneath the pier and explains that fancy bait is unnecessary. Choose Earthworms and the simple rod in the fishing interface, aim at the active splashes and cast.
When a fish bites, use the displayed hook prompt. During the struggle, counter its movement: pull right when it goes left, and left when it goes right. The game offers different rod-control schemes, so use the on-screen directions for the scheme you selected.
Correct counter-movement wears down the fish. Once it is tired, reel to bring it close and use the landing prompt. Store the catch rather than releasing it if you still need the quest fish.
Keep the line intact until you land the catch
The demo tutorial introduces another important condition: reeling while a fish is not tired, or allowing it to swim too far, strains the line. At peak tension the line snaps.
Do not hold the reel action through the entire fight. Watch the tension indicator, continue tiring the fish and use the exhausted window to gain distance. A fish can recover its stamina before you finish bringing it in, requiring another round of controlled pulling.
If you are getting no bite, check that your cast lands where the fish are splashing. The recorded player experience includes recasting toward visible activity after an unproductive cast. That is more useful than immediately assuming you need a stronger rod for this introductory job.
Turn in the lesson and keep the next objective in mind
After five Snappers in the recorded demo, speak to the merchants. They explain that this catch is suitable for processing and that more valuable fishing requires better bait and boat repairs. Their next instruction sends you to John the Fifth for access to the dry dock.
Later in that chain, you are told to grind the Snappers into meat and feed the fuel larva before refuelling the boat. Follow the dialogue and active objectives rather than processing every new species automatically: a later quest needs intact Harpooners for sale.
If your quest requests three Snappers, you may be following the earlier playtest sequence shown in older recordings. That number should not replace the five-fish requirement in the documented public-demo route.
FAQ
What bait catches Snappers in the opening quest?
Earthworms with the simple rod are used in the documented demo lesson.
How many Snappers do I need?
The demo-labelled recordings request five. An older playtest requests three; use your current quest counter.
Why does my line break before I land one?
The tutorial warns against reeling an untired fish and letting it swim too far away. Manage tension, exhaust it and reel during the safer window.
