DREADMOOR's Mastery progression unlocks blueprints using the knowledge pages you collect and earn. Learning a blueprint is only the first step: you still need to craft its item and, for equipment, install it in the appropriate place. The demo's hull-protection and engine quests make that distinction especially important.

What are Scraps of Knowledge for?

The documented demo dialogue uses Scraps of Knowledge for the material John gives you to study new blueprints. Playtest tutorials also describe Torn Pages as progression points used in the Mastery tree. Follow the labels and costs displayed by your current build rather than treating every old recording as an identical menu.

The official May fan-preview announcement identifies learning recipes through the Mastery tab as one of the added systems. It also says the questline and crafting were reworked, which explains why advice from an earlier playtest can differ.

Follow the demo's first boat-research objectives

After repairing the boat, the settlement progression asks for Softgrazers and the Chromatic Scales obtained by processing them. When that step is complete, John gives you knowledge and directs you to study hull protection and the upgraded engine.

Open the upgrade or Mastery interface and research those blueprints. Choose the actual engine upgrade the objective names; researching or crafting a different module because it sounds similar is not the same task.

This gives a supported early priority: spend the quest reward on the designs the current chain requires. The evidence does not establish a universal optimal allocation for every later branch, so a full-game skill ranking would go beyond the available route.

Research, craft, and install are separate actions

StageWhat it accomplishesWhat still remains
ResearchLearns the blueprintGather the recipe materials and craft it
CraftProduces the item or moduleFit it where required
InstallEquips the crafted improvementFinish any remaining quest dialogue

For the boat chain, John directs you to the lathe workbench for protective plates. The engine also needs a Carburetor obtained through the traders. Knowing the recipe does not remove that material requirement or place a completed engine in your boat automatically.

Player experience in Mr Feudal's demo recording documents the research-to-crafting sequence. It is a useful example of how the systems connect, rather than a complete tree catalog.

Avoid spending from an outdated recipe list

The earlier CrypticFox playtest includes different opening quests, lure recipes, and research steps. Its page costs and branch order should not be copied into a current-demo build without checking the menu.

Before spending knowledge, read the blueprint name, its current cost, and the active objective. Before collecting crafting ingredients, open the corresponding recipe. Before leaving the dock, confirm that the module is fitted rather than only crafted. Those checks address three different points where progression can appear stalled without implying a bug fix.

FAQ

Does learning a blueprint give me the item?

No. Research unlocks it; crafting produces it.

What should I learn for the early boat quests?

The documented demo directs you to hull protection and the upgraded engine after the scales step.

Can I use old playtest page costs?

Check your current Mastery menu instead. The builds have different quests and recipes.

Where are boat modules made?

The documented early boat-improvement chain uses the dry-dock lathe, followed by installation on the vessel.
